Energy Minister urges householders to avail of insulation grants

Energy Minister Eamon Ryan today urged householders to avail of the Government’s Home Energy Saving Scheme; as well over half of the budget has already been applied for. To date, almost €33 million in grants towards insulation and energy efficiency has been committed, for over 27,000 people nationwide.

Approximately 5,000 construction workers and BER assessors have registered to carry out the works, with main interest from city regions. Of the eight measures available, roof and cavity wall insulation have been the most popular.

It is estimated that the full suite of eight measures could deliver a minimum saving of €700. With 56,000 measures applied for to date, the funding committed under the Scheme to date will potentially save approximately €5 million in wasted energy.

“The primary aim of this Scheme is to help homeowners save money, while at the same time saving energy - on the cost of the works in the short term, and on their heating bills in the long-term," said Minister Ryan.

"It’s about refocusing the construction sector, and creating new opportunities for our tradespeople. It’s about green jobs. It’s about 2663 BER and 2260 construction workers, being registered as at August this year. As winter approaches and while there is still significant funding available. Now is the time to apply.”
