The European Ideas Lab kicks off in Dublin today, with 170 campaigners from the UK and Ireland, along with EU Green politicians meeting to discuss a range of issues.
Speaking today, Green Party leader Eamon Ryan TD said : “We are looking forward to hosting this regional Ideas Lab with our European Green colleagues. The first such event took place in Brussels earlier this year and this is the first of three regional Ideas Labs around Europe. It gives us the chance to sit down with people who are trying to change things for the better and are campaigning for social and environmental justice.
“The lab will start with keynote contributions on how we can advance the Sustainable Development Goals to meet the climate and biodiversity challenges we face. Through Saturday there will be detailed workshop sessions on issues such as corporate taxation, housing, Brexit, fisheries, and women's rights. The event is facilitated in a way where everyone can make an equal contribution and ideas are shared and recorded in a creative way.
“We will be joined by the leader of the Scottish Green Party Patrick Harvey MSP and by the Deputy leader of the Green Party in England and Wales, Amelia Womack. At a time when Brexit negotiations are of real concern on both sides of the Irish Sea, we are working with all our Green colleagues to try and minimise the damage and division that could come. We are also glad to have the Co-Leader of the Green group in the European Parliament, Ska Keller MEP and the co leader of the European Green Party Reinhard Bütikofer attending. It gives us a chance to consider in a visionary way the future of Europe we want to advance.”
