Green Party – This is a “make or break” election

20th February 2016

The Green Party has called next Friday's election a 'make or break' moment for the party

Speaking today the Party's Director of Elections Cllr. Ciarán Cuffe stated: “Number one votes for Green Party candidates are crucial. No-one has ever been elected on a high number of second preference votes. Recent polling in Dublin Bay South indicates that Eamon Ryan could be out-polled by other candidates.

“The Green Party brings fresh thinking and new ideas to the table, but there is a risk that people will opt for either the status quo or far-left candidates. A number one vote for the Greens can bring a thoughtful and compassionate voice back into Dáil Éireann.

“In many countries Green Parties have brought innovation and practical solutions to issues such as education, climate change and housing. We believe that such a voice is currently sorely lacking on the national stage in Ireland. A Green voice is needed in the next Dáil.

“Across the country the Green Party is fielding candidates in all forty constituencies and is fielding a high proportion of young candidates and women.

“Candidates such as Cllr. Catherine Martin in Dublin Rathdown and Cllr. Roderic O'Gorman in Dublin West can bring their experience to the table.

"The Green Party has the talent and the experience to reform the way Government works in Ireland, but a number one vote is need next Friday to bring about real change."
