Francis is Deputy Mayor of South Dublin County Council. He is also a lecturer in the Dublin School of Architecture, DIT and principal of an architectural design practice, concentrating on domestic projects.
Married to Green Party Deputy Leader, Catherine Martin, he is active in his local community as a coach at Ballyboden Wanderers GAA Club and through his work with the Tallaght Hospital Action Group (THAG).
He has made several submissions to the County Council Local Area Plans in relation to sustainable development and community recreational facilities. He has also been engaged with the local Tidy Towns, drawing up proposals for community projects.
As an artist, exhibiting work for the past 20 years, his ’1916 Women Rising Up’ exhibition in 2006 gained national coverage. The exhibit highlighted the activity of the forgotten women who played a major role in the country’s struggle for independence.
