Senator Grace O’Sullivan
Senator - Agricultural Panel
Grace was elected to the 26th Seanad on the Agricultural and Fisheries Panel.
Grace is a respected ecologist, who has spent the past 37 years of her life tackling environmental and social issues on a local, national and international level. She is known internationally as one of Greenpeace’s most high profile activists. Starting out as a deckhand back in the early 80’s, she went on to take a pivotal role on-board the ill-fated Rainbow Warrior in the Pacific Ocean campaigning against nuclear proliferation.
She worked for the organisation for over 20 years campaigning in the Antarctic, Pacific Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Irish Sea on a range of environmental and social justice campaigns. She was a crew member when the boat was bombed.
Since leaving Greenpeace she has worked with a number of other NGOs on biodiversity campaigning issues. Since moving home to Ireland in 2000 she has been busy raising her three children and working in the area of environmental education.
Most recently, since running for the Green Party in the European Election campaign in 2014, she has been involved in setting up a sustainable tourism project, with the launch of Brian Boru, a sailing and eco-tours vessel which is operated out of Waterford City. She is a keen surfer and was the first woman to win the Irish Surf Championships.
