Senator Pauline O’Reilly has been re-elected as cathaoirleach of the Green Party.

Her re-election follows a vote by party members who were able to choose between Senator O’Reilly and Green Party executive committee member Dr Bláithín Gallagher.

Senator O’Reilly is the party’s education spokesperson and MEP candidate for the Midlands North-West.

Senator O’Reilly said;

“Over the past two years, in my first term as Cathaoirleach, we have selected more candidates than ever before to run in the local elections. I am looking forward to driving the party forward over the next two years, returning our two MEPs, as well as running for Europe next year myself. We need green voices across the European Parliament, councils, and in our national parliament as we have never needed them before, to drive true change, change that makes lives better.”

Party Leader Eamon Ryan said at the announcement that he wanted to commend both candidates.

“I congratulate Pauline O’Reilly. I look forward to continuing to work with you. We need to now really get to work and work hard for the European and local elections.”

Deputy Party Leader Catherine Martin said;

“I wish to congratulate Senator Pauline O’Reilly on her re-election as Cathaoirleach of the Green Party. Pauline has been of huge support to candidates and members across the country, and I look forward to continuing to work with her in the role. My commiserations to Bláithín Gallagher who ran an excellent campaign and who is a brilliant candidate for our party in Leitrim.”
