Now, as we seek to rebuild, and again grow awareness of and support for our core policies and values, we are looking for an exceptional person to take on a lead role coordinating political and parliamentary activities within Leinster House, and with our representatives across the country.

Title & Contract:  Parliamentary Political Director; Full Time

Reports to: Green Party Leader

Based: Leinster House. On site, with 1 day work from home

Remuneration: €65,000 per annum

Closing Date: Friday 5th December 2025 at 11pm

Main purpose of the role

The Parliamentary Political Director’s main responsibility is to manage the regular parliamentary and political operations of the Green Party’s Parliamentary Party in Leinster House; managing the administrative, political and research functions according to the direction of the Party Leader. 

They must coordinate daily with the Party’s Press and Strategic Communications Officer.

They must ensure the coordination of the Parliamentary Party’s initiatives in conjunction with Head Office, Councillors, Spokespeople and other key components of the Party.

The Parliamentary Political Director will also undertake roles assisting the Party Leader in terms of the drafting of Dáil contributions and speeches, drafting legislation and amendments and other parliamentary related duties.

Duties

Political & Strategic Operations

  • At the direction of the Leader, coordinate the Party’s ongoing political positioning and campaigns within Leinster House, liaising closely with the Party’s Press and Strategic Communications Officer and Head Office.
  • Assisting the Party Leader in implementing the political objectives of the Party Strategic Plan within Leinster House, coordinating closely with the Press and Strategic Communications Officer and Head Office.
  • Representing the Party Leader with a wide range of stakeholders, including at events or through ongoing engagement.

Parliamentary Activities Coordination

  • Speechwriting and drafting contributions on legislation, motions, topical issues, Leaders questions, questions on promised legislation and other parliamentary speaking duties.
  • Submission and tracking of parliamentary questions.
  • Providing support for the Party Leader’s contributions on Joint, Select or Special Oireachtas Committees, coordinating with other members of the PP.
  • Coordination of Leinster House activities with Party Spokespeople. 

Legislative and Policy Research and Composition

  • Drafting of Green Party legislation and motions.
  • Preparing submissions on pre-legislative scrutiny.
  • Drafting and submission of routine amendments to bills transiting through the Houses.
  • Preparation of policy and position papers as required.
  • Coordination of legislative and policy activities with other functions within the party.

Administrative and Office Management

  • Convenor and coordinator of weekly meetings of Parliamentary Party and staff, assignment and tracking of tasks.
  • Representative of the Parliamentary Party for Leinster House administrative coordination.
  • Primary point of contact for the Green Party in Leinster House for all regular queries, aside from media and constituency.
  • Ensuring files and records are appropriately and securely stored.
  • Recording financial information consistent with Ethics Acts - invoices, receipts etc. Ensuring records are report-ready.
  • Working with the Administrative Assistant in providing timely responses to Dublin West constituency queries. 

Any other duties assigned by the Parliamentary Party

  • As needs arise the Party Leader may assign other duties related to the purpose of the role.

Who we’re looking for - Person Specification

We’re looking for someone who cares passionately about the environment, about social justice and equality and who would be a great fit for our small, dedicated team. The person who fills the Parliamentary Political Director role must display leadership, motivation, political understanding and a share in a desire to rebuild the Green Party in its current opposition role and beyond.

 Essential skills and attributes

  • A strong understanding of the workings of Dáil and Seanad Éireann.
  • Excellent communications skills – written and interpersonal. An ability to communicate well with an extremely varied group of stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership skills, particularly in a demanding political environment.
  • Excellent research and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent record management and filing skills.
  • First rate ability to schedule well and manage time and calendars.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a highly variable workload.
  • A familiarity with environmental and social justice organisations in Ireland.

Desirable skills and attributes

  • Experience with legislative drafting and composition of parliamentary contributions.
  • A familiarity with Irish politics or a desire to get involved in a body immersed in a political environment.
  • Knowledge of and a passion for the aims and objectives of the Green Party.
