Fiona Dunne
As your representative for Borris in Ossory and Mountmellick, I will work to ensure that our communities are vibrant places where we can live, work and play in a safe and healthy environment.
Sustainable Development: Each community is unique, with its own special character. I will support communities to have their voices heard, to contribute to improving their lives and their areas and to look after themselves, each other and our natural environment.
Dereliction and Congestion: I will work to reverse vacancy and dereliction. I will support people-centred towns and villages, with less traffic, better active travel infrastructure and local, human, 'face to face' services.
Protecting and Restoring Nature: Working for and with nature needs to be feasible for our landowners, residents and visitors. Developing accessible amenities in Laois’ beautiful nature will be part of that, providing new opportunities for our communities.
Experience
Living in Abbeyleix, I work with the parliamentary team for Minister Pippa Hackett, as a part-time teacher and a heritage specialist.
I have served on Boards for the government, NGOs, schools and a range of other community programmes. I am currently the chairperson of the Abbeyleix Bog Project and a member of Abbeyleix Tidy Towns.
I work hard - preferably as part of a ‘meitheal’ - to leave my community and my environment in a better place.
