New Green Party frontbench will keep climate and nature firmly on the political agenda

Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman TD has today announced new frontbench spokespersons.
The work of the Oireachtas members will be complemented by the Party's strong contingent of local councillors and experienced local representatives. This will ensure that the Green Party continues to effectively advocate for a fairer and more equal society at both a local and national level.
“This is a frontbench with a strong mix of experience and new perspectives — from recently elected councillors, former Ministers of State, and seasoned local representatives. It reflects a strong balance of regional voices and gender representation across the country."
“We have already seen the new Government roll-back some key environmental and climate measures," said Deputy O'Gorman.
"While the country faces a period of constrained public finances due to President Trump’s economic policies, we must fight to ensure that previous commitments on climate action are not among the first areas to be slashed by Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Regional Independents in future Budgets.
“That would be a false economy — one that will lead to higher costs and further strain on the Exchequer through climate fines if we fail to meet our legally binding emissions targets.
“I am confident that our new frontbench will fight to keep climate and nature on the political agenda by rigorously holding this Government to account on these critical issues.
“Our spokespersons will also bring clear and workable solutions to the challenges we face as a country, from climate, to supporting children and families, and Ireland’s place in a more insecure World”.
