Green Party condemns destruction of Palestinian seed storage facilities by IDF in Hebron

The Green Party has today condemned the destruction of a vital Palestinian seed storage facility in Hebron, calling it the final piece of the genocide jigsaw.
The Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) seed bank in Hebron was bulldozed and levelled with security backing from the IDF as an act of sabotage and a means of ensuring that the Palestinian people will not have the means to recover and grow food.
Green Party Agriculture Spokesperson. Senator Malcolm Noonan said that the Israeli Government was not content with genocide in Gaza, destroying agricultural crops, settler violence and seizing of Palestinian land but now it wanted to wipe out their future means of existence.
"What we are witnessing here is the coming together of a strategic, coordinated campaign of ethnic cleansing of a people through murder, eviction, forced starvation and now cutting off their future livelihoods. Destroying the seed bank at Hebron not only cuts off means of adapting to changing growing conditions using seed of local provenance but destroying food sovereignty and genetic diversity," said Senator Noonan.
The Green Party is calling for the incident to be investigated as part of ongoing war crimes investigations against Israel by the International Court of Justice and for the international community to speak out against the targeting of food sovereignty as a weapon of war.
"Protecting genetic resources anywhere in the world is vital for all of humanity. What happened in Hebron is not just an irreplaceable loss to the Palestinian people but to us all and should be roundly condemned by world leaders" concluded Senator Noonan.
