Greens launch election campaign
The Green Party is ready to bring its message to voters in every corner of Ireland, as it launched its election campaign today (November 7). The three-week campaign will focus on climate change, transport, inequality, childcare and ensuring that no one is left behind in the transition to a carbon-neutral economy.
The Party is running a candidate in every one of the country’s 43 constituencies. A majority of candidates are female.
The Green Party is calling on all citizens to support policies that promote environmental sustainability and social equity, encouraging voters to use their ballots as a tool for transformative change.
Green Party Leader Roderic O’Gorman said;
"Since entering Government, the Green Party has delivered. We've taken significant and sustained action on the climate crisis, with Ireland's carbon emissions now at their lowest level for 30 years. While taking those necessary steps, we've also delivered support for children and families: reduced public transport costs, halved the cost of childcare, and increased paid parent's leave.
"Now we want to do more, to go further. Our candidates across the country are raring to go, and their message for this campaign will be: if you want a party that delivers, vote Green."
The Party will launch its manifesto on Tuesday November 12th in the Royal Dublin Convention Centre. Minister O’Gorman will address a gathering of party candidates and media, and lay out the Green Party’s vision for Ireland.
Deputy Leader Senator Roisin Garvey said;
“This is a critical election for Ireland and we need leadership that has already proven it can provide real change. The Greens don’t just talk about change, we deliver it. If you want to know what we stand for, look at the polices we have already implemented.
"We have made massive progress on climate action, expanding public transport, and investing in clean energy. We have trebled funding for organic farming and supported small businesses reduce their electricity costs and revitalise town centres. If you want cleaner communities, nature restoration and warmer homes, then vote Green number one.”
Director of Elections Senator Pauline O’Reilly said;
"Our campaign will be based on the core Green Party principles of sustainability, equality, and a vision of a fairer, greener Ireland. We are running a candidate in every single constituency in the country so that we can bring these principles to every single voter. Our candidates come from all kinds of backgrounds and have a wealth of experience and talent.
"I am delighted that 23 of our candidates are women, making the Greens one of the few, if any, parties that have more women than men running. Keep an eye out because these candidates will be coming to a door near you very soon.”
