Greens support long-overdue Metrolink
Green Party representatives and members of the public are among those presenting submissions in support of the MetroLink at the An Bord Pleanála hearing on the project. This project has been backed by the Green Party for over 20 years and is long over-due to reduce congestion and emissions in Dublin.
Ciaran Cuffe, Green Party MEP for Dublin said;
“MetroLink is a transformative piece of infrastructure for Dublin that will bring a major shift towards sustainable transport. Every year 1,500 deaths in Ireland are attributed to transport emissions, so what’s good for the health of the planet is also good for our own health. This investment will be pioneering in cutting down congestion, reducing emissions and allowing people to easily travel across Dublin.”
Feljin Jose, Green Party candidate for Cabra-Glasnevin, where three MetroLink stations will be located, said;
“Dublin is ranked one of the worst cities in the world for traffic congestion and the MetroLink will be vital in taking cars off the roads. Rail is one of the best systems for moving large numbers of people quickly and cheaply across cities. The evidence shows people are more than willing to use public transport when it is available, so the creation of a reliable metro service will be welcomed by many commuters.”
