Political Reform

To restore trust in politics in Ireland, the Green Party is campaigning for Political Reform that allows everyone have a say in how our democracy functions.

Proposals include a directly elected Seanad, votes for emigrants, and the reduction of the voting age to 16.

Other measures outlined in the policy include citizen initiated referendums, allowing citizens to nominate presidential candidates, ending the Economic Management Council, and opening up the process of appointments to State Boards.
